Experience the stunning Aurora of May 31/June 1, 2025 — a breathtaking display captured in a 360º panoramic view, where the horizon surrounds you and the zenith takes center stage. At around 1:30 am, during the peak of the substorm, vibrant curtains of light lit up the sky, blending a dazzling spectrum of colors.

This rare and powerful geomagnetic storm captivated skywatchers worldwide. The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) and Southern Lights (Aurora Australis) were visible far from polar regions. Witnessing images flooded social media — with multi-colored curtains, coronas, and rays, creating a mesmerizing spectacle.

Don’t miss your chance to witness such incredible natural wonders. Book your spot now with MWR LIFE and secure the best viewing experience. Reserve your favorite seats in the most prime locations and enjoy the magic of the skies above.

The spectacular event was triggered by a massive coronal mass ejection — a cloud of charged particles hurled into space from the sun — lit up skies in Canada, the U.S., Europe, New Zealand and beyond for over 60 hours between Saturday, May 31 to Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

In Photos: June’s ‘Great Aurora’ Stuns Skywatchers Around The World

The great aurora of May 31/June 1, 2025, in a ~240º panorama from northeast at left, to northwest at right, taken as a substorm was hitting, and the sky was lighting up with bright and colourful curtains. Here the curtains had moved mostly to the south, at centre here, after an initial appearance at the start of the night as a diffuse band across the north. However, moments after this as the substorm peaked, the sky filled with aurora, captured in an all-sky circular panorama.

As Earth approaches the solstice on June 21, typical locations in the Northern Hemisphere where the aurora oval hangs over — such as polar latitudes near 70 degrees North — currently have no hours of darkness. That makes the U.S. currently one of the best places to see the Northern Lights.

The great aurora of May 31/June 1, 2025, here with a burst of red appearing for a brief time amid the curtains to the east as a substorm hit boosting the brightness and colours. On this night the Kp index peaked at Kp8, unusually high. However, to the eye the aurora still remained dimmer and colourless, except for moments like this when some reds did show up to the eye. Technical: A single 5-second exposure with the Viltrox 16mm lens at f/1.8 on the Nikon Z6III at ISO 400.

A long-lasting G4 geomagnetic storm, it was one of the most vivid displays of aurora in Solar Cycle 25, which is currently in its solar maximum period. The sun has an 11-14-year cycle during which its magnetic activity waxes and wanes. It wasn’t, however, as powerful as the G5 geomagnetic storm last weekend that saw aurora seen from as far south as California.

A man takes visuals of Aurora Australis, also known as the Southern Lights, as it glows on the horizon over Lake Ellesmere in Lincoln on the outskirts of Christchurch on June 1, 2025.

The long display was initially triggered by a powerful M8.2-class solar flare on May 31, which launched a fast-moving “halo CME” — an Earth-directed coronal mass ejection. It began interacting with Earth’s magnetosphere early on June 1, triggering a G4 (Severe) geomagnetic storm, with the Kp index peaking at 8 — high enough to expand the auroral oval well into mid- and low-latitude regions.

The great aurora of May 31/June 1, 2025, here with particularly colourful curtains to the east as a substorm hit boosting the brightness and colours. This is a wide-angle lens framing from the horizon to near the zenith at top. Technical: A single 5-second exposure with the Viltrox 16mm lens at f/1.8 on the Nikon Z6III at ISO 800.

In the U.S., aurora was seen as far south as southern Nebraska, Missouri, and even parts of New Mexico. States including Oregon, Wyoming, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Massachusetts also witnessed views of the aurora. According to Spaceweather.com, auroras were captured on the Gulf Coast at latitude 30 degrees North — a very rare event that reflects the storm’s exceptional intensity.

Outside North America, both aurora borealis and aurora australis were seen in abundance. Canada experienced sky-filling displays, while colorful Southern Lights were seen from southern Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. The geomagnetic storm began to wane on June 2, but minor (G1) to strong (G3) storms persisted into June 3, keeping high-latitude skywatchers on alert.

The Northern Lights are a result of the solar wind, which consists of charged particles emitted by the sun that interact with Earth’s magnetic field. While much of this solar wind is deflected by the magnetic field, some charged particles travel along the magnetic field lines toward the polar regions where they enter. These particles collide with and excite oxygen and nitrogen atoms, causing them to release energy as light.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

Социальный GPS для цифровых кочевников помогает преодолеть одиночество в 47 странах через архитектуру человеческих связей.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

Villa Treville, opened as a hotel in 2010, has become a prominent presence on the Amalfi Coast. It offers cinematic views of Positano, situated on a terraced estate, blending proximity for immersion with privacy and stunning sea views.

The estate dates back to the 18th century and was famously owned by Franco Zeffirelli in the 1960s. As a renowned film and opera director, he infused the property with a theatrical touch, working with set designer Renzo Mongiardino to add a Moorish flair to the Mediterranean architecture.

.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

Southern Italy, including the Amalfi Coast, was part of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and still showcases its Arab heritage in architecture, design, and cuisine. At Treville, this legacy is reflected in Moroccan lanterns, which cast a warm, dreamy glow across its rooms and gardens.

Though mainly based in Rome, Zeffirelli spent summers on the Amalfi Coast, hosting celebrities like Maria Callas, Elton John, Elizabeth Taylor, and Rudolf Nureyev. Nureyev, a famous Russian dancer, owned a home on the Li Galli islands, visible offshore.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

The Zeffirelli Suite

Today, Treville’s 16 bedrooms and suites are named after these icons, along with Zeffirelli’s legendary productions. Originally set within three villas (“tre ville”) which are white, pink and blue, the hotel now boasts six villas which are connected by secret staircases, cobbled passageways and flower-lined trails. Each suite has its own character with a mix of historic touches and modern luxury.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

The Callas Suite features a turquoise and citrus color scheme. It includes an outdoor terrace and a private heated plunge pool under a shaded canopy, creating a relaxing outdoor space.

The Bernstein Suite is known for its blue and white stripes and a unique circular shower set inside a historic brick bread oven, adding charm and character.

The Zeffirelli Suite is the largest, with four bedrooms and four en-suite bathrooms. It’s the highlight of the property, decorated with rare art and historic furnishings collected by Zeffirelli. It also has its own terrace and heated plunge pool for privacy and luxury.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

The Callas Suite preserves Zeffirelli’s original design, including the white salon, a spacious room decorated entirely in white tiles. It offers a peaceful retreat from Positano’s bright sunshine.

The space has been transformed into Bianca Bar, a botanical lounge where tradition meets innovation. Here, cocktails are crafted with herbs and distillers from the estate’s gardens.

Two panoramic terraces overlook Positano and the sea. Surrounded by leafy plants, colorful cushions, and flapping curtains, they create a mystical and intimate atmosphere.

This terrace is one of the most photogenic spots in Positano, offering a feeling of exclusivity and relaxation—like lounging at a friend’s private villa with warm service and thoughtful hospitality.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

Bianca Bar is the perfect spot for sunset drinks, leading into dinner at Maestro’s, the property’s romantic open-air terrace restaurant.

The restaurant features ivy-covered columns and a tiled fountain at its center. Soft Moroccan lamps cast a warm glow, perfect for enjoying scenic sunsets.

Chef Vincenzo Castaldo creates seasonal dishes and regional classics using ingredients from the estate’s organic garden. The menu offers elevated comfort food—from Spaghetti alla Nerano with fried zucchini and parmesan, mozzarella-stuffed artichokes with black truffles, to seared tuna with sautéed vegetables.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

Maestro’s Restaurant is part of a beautiful property surrounded by lush gardens and winding paths.

Guests can visit The Rocks, a stylish beach club that extends into the sea. It offers stunning views of Positano, with blue umbrellas and striped sun loungers. This relaxing spot also serves as the pier for the hotel’s boat fleet, which now includes Treville Maritime’s private yacht, the Wajer 38 Spectre.

Another haven is La Traviata, a luxurious spa set inside a sunlit greenhouse. The spa uses Dr. Barbara Sturm products, known for restorative massages and treatments. This space is designed for pure relaxation and rejuvenation.

Why Villa Treville Is One Of The Amalfi Coast’s Most Iconic Hotels

Treville has added a cold-water immersion therapy feature, including a cold plunge pool kept at 50°F (10°C). This complements the existing heat therapies at the spa.

Another wellness highlight is the heated grotto pool, offering stunning sea views and a relaxing retreat.

The hotel remains a favorite for celebrities like Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, and Sting, who value its luxurious amenities and relaxed low-key vibe.

Guests can arrive by road or sea. The private boat shuttle is available for free, taking guests to Positano and beyond, providing both convenience and a chance to enjoy the scenic Amalfi Coast.

Feasting In Louisville Begins Long Before The Kentucky Derby

Feasting In Louisville Begins Long Before The Kentucky Derby

Louisville’s parties always feature biscuits and country ham.

The Kentucky Derby is only two minutes long, but in Louisville, celebrations start days earlier with multiple parties that last all day and night. The city also boasts a vibrant nightlife in its bars and restaurants. Securing a hotel can be challenging, but once done, simply showing up is enough to join the festivities.

Feasting In Louisville Begins Long Before The Kentucky Derby

Louisville is known as Bourbon City, attracting visitors to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The trail begins at the Frazier Museum and visits distilleries like Angel’s Envy, Michter’s, Evan Williams, and Old Forester. The Urban Bourbon Trail on Whiskey Row features distilleries and restaurants along Main Street.

During Derby Week, popular Kentucky foods like pimento cheese, country ham, and biscuits are served at every party. These include buttermilk biscuits and salty, thinly sliced country ham.

A mint julep—made with bourbon, sugar, and mint—is the traditional Derby cocktail. It dates back to before 1800. Historian Frances Parkinson Keyes said, “Never crush the mint in a julep,” highlighting its cultural significance.

Feasting In Louisville Begins Long Before The Kentucky Derby

Louisville’s signature dish is the hot brown sandwich.

It was invented in the 1920s at the Brown Hotel when chef Fred Schmidt created an open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon and Mornay sauce for late-night diners.

The hot brown remains a hotel specialty, though it is rarely found outside the Brown Hotel.

Feasting In Louisville Begins Long Before The Kentucky Derby

Derby Pie is a trademarked dessert traditionally enjoyed on Derby Day.

It is a rich chocolate-chip pecan pie created by Kerns Bakery, known for its thick, decadent style.

You can find Derby Pie and similar dishes at Churchill Downs’ nine food and drink venues, including the Starting Gate Pavilion, Skye Terrace, Millionaire’s Row, and Stakes Dining Room.

Pat’s Steakhouse is a classic favorite among Louisville generations.

One of my favorite places in town, dating back to 1958 is Pat’s Steakhouse, set on two floors of a 150-year-old coach house with décor of dark woods, brass chandeliers, Waterford crystal, hundreds of old photos and white tablecloths, along with a wall of more than 60 bourbons. Begin with a platter of oysters, maybe the frogs’ legs in garlic butter and then the 16-ounce strip steak or Pat’s fried chicken.

Jack Fry’s pre-dates Pat’s by a quarter century in business, decked out in decades of sports and gambling memorabilia. Here’s where to get shrimp and grits with redeye gravy or the pork chop with smoked bacon and roast potatoes and the angel’s food cake.

Feasting In Louisville Begins Long Before The Kentucky Derby

Pork ribs BBQ at Backdeck.

Kentucky has a string barbecue culture, and one of the best I found in Louisville is owned by Chan Nelson, who insists you don’t drown his succulent ribs in sauce. Best bargain at Backdeck is the three-meat platter with beans, smoked mac and cheese and yams.

Red Hog is a butcher shop that also purveys terrific sandwiches, soups and charcuterie. The Fat Tony sandwich ($16), mounted with mortadella, salami cotto, city ham, provolone, mayo, hot pepper tapenade, lettuce and onion, is terrific.

There’s first-rate Italian food at ROC, owned by chef Rocco Cadolini, for sumptuous pastas. Try for an outdoor patio table.

Feasting In Louisville Begins Long Before The Kentucky Derby

The gargantuan Jeff Ruby’s offers a huge menu of sushi, steaks, seafood and chops.

For the big, brash splurge—and it’s sure to be packed every night—make a reservation in advance at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse, which does indeed have 14 cuts of steak, as well as 15 variations of sushi, wagyu meatballs, a massive pork porterhouse with polenta cakes and heady black pepper jus, and for dessert, a three-layer carrot cake with warm caramel cream cheese icing. The restaurant’s wine list deserves its many awards for great breadth and depth.

Inside The World’s Most Expensive Widlife Safari

Indian Billionaire Rahul Bhatia’s IndiGo Steps Up Fleet Expansion Amid Travel Boom

An Airbus SE A321 aircraft, operated by IndiGo—India’s largest airline by revenue and part of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.— prepares to land at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Wednesday

India’s leading low-cost carrier, IndiGo, controlled by billionaire Rahul Bhatia, is ramping up its fleet expansion to meet surging domestic and international travel demand.

To fuel this growth, the airline has exercised an option to purchase an additional 30 Airbus A350 widebody aircraft, increasing its fleet of international planes, Bloomberg reported over the weekend. This comes after a prior order of 30 A350s last year and an upcoming delivery of six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners scheduled for next year.

IndiGo aims to grow its fleet by 50% to over 600 aircraft by 2030, according to a statement released late last week.

“Our focus is on comprehensive growth to deliver affordable, convenient, and punctual travel to our expanding domestic and international route network,” said Pieter Elbers, IndiGo’s CEO.

This year, IndiGo plans to launch services on 10 new international routes, expanding its network to over 50 destinations.

Next month, the airline will introduce direct flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam. Additional planned routes include flights to Athens, and Southeast Asian cities such as Siem Reap, Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi, along with Central Asian hubs Almaty and Tashkent.

To support its expanding fleet, IndiGo has also signed an agreement with Bangalore International Airport to develop a 12.5-hectare maintenance and repair facility.

This new facility will complement existing operations in Delhi and Bengaluru, enhancing aircraft availability, reducing costs, and enabling quicker turnaround times, the airline stated.

Billionaire Rahul Bhatia, with an estimated net worth of $8.5 billion, is among India’s wealthiest individuals. He co-founded IndiGo with fellow billionaire Rakesh Gangwal in 2006. Following a public dispute over airline management, Gangwal resigned from the board in 2022 and committed to selling his shares over five years.

Last month, Gangwal reportedly sold shares worth approximately $1.4 billion (115.6 billion rupees) in IndiGo.

Explore Sam Walton’s Legacy At The Newly Reopened Walmart Museum

Sam Walton’s truck sits outside his first store in Bentonville, Arkansas, now the Walmart Museum, and harks backs to the time before his meteoric rise to Walmart fame.

Full disclosure: I am not a museum person. Despite my age, I often see them through kids’ eyes—as repositories for dusty relics and things of the past that have no relevance to my life today. But there is hope for me yet, as I discovered on a visit to Bentonville.

There, in the main square, was a retro storefront that took me back to old TV shows, when shoppers would approach the counter with a list and the employee would do all the shopping, securing the items, bagging them, and adding the cost to the customer’s account. I wandered in, curious about what I would find, and indeedy, it was like stepping back in time.

The Walmart Museum is housed in the original Walton’s 5&10 store owned by Sam Walton, who moved to Bentonville with his new wife in 1950 and called it his home until his death. Inside the door, you are greeted with an old-timey store selling vintage candy like hard lemon drops and Sugar Babies. Then you’ll take a self-guided tour through the museum, learning the history of the Walton family and walking the timeline that illustrates the growth of Walmart.

The story of Walmart’s rise is so engaging that you’ll find yourself scrutinizing every display and reminiscing about the good old days.

The second floor transports you into the 21st century with exhibits thoughtfully designed to capture that era, seamlessly blending technology and featuring interactive elements that are both fun and captivating.

You’ll also come across Walmart’s extensive charitable efforts, including its partnership with Dolly Parton to raise millions for communities in need. One highlight is a studio-like room where visitors can ask questions to a hologram of Sam Walton and receive responses—something that’s bound to go viral on Instagram once word spreads.

A significant portion of the museum is dedicated to Sam Walton himself. You can see his office recreated just as he left it, along with the old pickup truck he never replaced with a flashier model—because, as Walton explained, a sports car wouldn’t fit his hunting dogs, guns, and fishing gear. Walton’s humility and dislike for pretension made him a symbol of Bentonville, embodying hard work, innovation, and integrity—values that make the museum an inspiring and memorable experience.

Kids of all ages can learn about Walton’s legacy through fascinating displays and placards. Did you know he pioneered the idea of “self-service shopping,” allowing customers to browse and pick their own items? Or that he commissioned a manufacturer to turn the popular hula hoop into an affordable toy by creating a plastic hose? These tidbits make exploring the museum all the more enjoyable.

It’s inspiring to witness how innovations and entrepreneurship fueled Walmart’s incredible growth from its first store in 1962 to today. The company surged in the 1970s after going public on the New York Stock Exchange, and adopted the famous slogan “everyday low prices”—a clever marketing move during a recession.

Beyond the impressive history, there’s a relatable side. As you observe the display cases, you’ll recognize many items—whether toys from your childhood, ones you bought for your own kids, or household essentials like that old, loud hairdryer or electric razor. The first floor offers a nostalgic walk through pop culture, resonating with visitors from every generation.
