NetJets — Flexjet — VistaJet

Private Jet Market: Untapped Potential and Growing Demand

Patrick Gallagher, President of NetJets Aviation, recently shared insights with CNBC. Despite five years of industry growth, he believes the private aviation market remains largely untapped.

He explained that, even with a 40% expansion, only 14% of the potential customers currently fly privately. According to a 2020 McKinsey study, only 10% of wealthy households used private jets before the pandemic.

NetJets, a Berkshire Hathaway company, expects to add around 90 new jets this year and holds options for over 1,700 jets from top manufacturers like Textron, Embraer, and Bombardier. Gallagher noted that demand shows no signs of slowing down, despite market volatility, tariffs, or uncertainty. Customers continue to fly, book, and travel normally.

Market Expansion & Demographics

Data shows private jet flights in the U.S. are rising – up 4.1% year-over-year since tariffs, with domestic flights increasing 16% over Memorial Day. Experts like Thomas Flohr of VistaJet highlight the gigantic and growing market, often expanding at double GDP.

Flexjet, for example, announced a $7 billion order for Embraer jets, aiming to double its fleet to over 600 jets by 2031.

NetJets’s fleet of about 1,100 aircraft places it among major airlines. The key drivers?

  • Family time for busy executives
  • Ease of travel for mobility issues
  • Visiting loved ones, especially pets (last year, 25,000 pets flown)
  • The aging demographics, with younger customers entering earlier and demanding bigger jets for longer trips.

The trend? «Younger, larger, longer» flights.

Confidentiality & Customer Loyalty

For high-net-worth individuals, privacy is critical. Gallagher notes clients often choose NetJets for discreet travel, with no way to track onboard passengers.

Fractional ownership and jet cards are sticky programs, attracting a loyal customer base. Many who flew during COVID stay loyal—not returning to airlines.

A Forbes survey confirms: private jets are among the most coveted luxury items for billionaires.

Market Growth Factors

Gallagher points out that $80 trillion will be inherited over the next two decades, fueling the market for private aviation. The next generation — mainly tech entrepreneurs in their 30s and 40s — prefer shared economy solutions like jet cards and fractional ownership.

According to surveys, reasons for choosing private flight include saving time, access to better airports, nonstop flights, and traveling with pets—demonstrating the shift towards convenience and flexibility.

New Innovations & Entry of New Players

Recent industry changes are making private flying more accessible. Kenny Dichter, founder of Marquis Jet and Wheels Up, is back with RealJet, aiming to convert more first-time flyers by emphasizing style and hassle-free travel.

Partnerships with brands like BetMGM and FanDuel help reach millions of affluent Americans. Dichter’s goal: turn luxury, convenience, and social experience into the driving forces for market expansion.

All proceeds from this auction will go entirely to Meals for Myanmar, supporting crucial rebuilding efforts after the recent disaster.

Help Myanmar Rebuild

On March 28, Myanmar was struck by a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake. The tragic event caused over 3,700 deaths, injured more than 5,000 people, and left around 200,000 homeless.

With the monsoon season approaching, there’s a narrow window to provide shelter before heavy rains make recovery even more difficult. Immediate aid is essential to help the affected communities.

A Community of Food Lovers Takes Action

Bangkok Foodies, a passionate food media platform and online community, was founded by Samantha Proyrungtong. In response to the crisis, they launched #Meals4Myanmar, a campaign to raise funds for rebuilding efforts.

Proyrungtong’s love for Myanmar runs deep. She visited in 2017, exploring Yangon’s culinary scene, Shan State countryside, and Inle Lake, noting the kindness and warmth of the people left a lasting impression.

Partnering with Culinary Excellence

To support Myanmar’s recovery, Bangkok Foodies has teamed up with some of Thailand’s most famous chefs, culinary professionals, and restaurants—many James-Beard-winning, Michelin-starred, and ranked among Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.

Every baht raised goes directly to trusted rebuilding projects on the ground, in partnership with Sonne.

A Lesson in Resilience
I tried to block out the relentless sunlight by stacking pillows against the curtained windows of my tiny hotel. It was nearly 2 a.m., yet I was wide awake under Iceland’s midnight sun. During summer, the sun barely dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow that lasts into the night.

First Night in Reykjavik
Many travelers start their Iceland trip in Reykjavik during transatlantic stopovers. But I had bigger plans. My heart was drawn to the wild beauty of the North, the Arctic Circle, and the charming East—small fishing villages and coastal towns where I hoped to meet locals.

The Exciting Promise
Sleep might be hard to come by, but I didn’t mind. The next day promised adventures: relaxing in thermal lagoons, covered in silica, green algae, and mineral oils. Iceland was ready to work its magic on me.

Land of Fire and Ice

Iceland is a remarkable destination of fire and ice. Despite the volcano eruption in 2023, tourism is thriving. The landscape is dominated by mountains, lava fields, and craggy valleys—a land shaped by volcanic activity and glaciers.

Most visitors focus on the Golden Circle—a popular route in the southwest—featuring Thingvellir National Park, the Geysir geothermal area, and Gullfoss Waterfall.

But true adventure lies beyond. Drive the ring road around the edge of Iceland for a more authentic experience—exploring hidden gems and spectacular scenery farther away from the crowds.

Experience the Magic
Imagine standing near the Godafoss Waterfall on the Skjalfandafljot River in summer. The powerful cascade, surrounded by the raw beauty of Northern Iceland, is unforgettable.

Gullfoss Waterfall is located in the canyon of the Hvítá River in southwest Iceland. It’s one of the country’s most iconic destinations and a must-see for any traveler.

Explore Northern Iceland
In the north, you’ll discover a completely different side of Iceland. Here, dramatic waterfalls, geothermal baths, and sleepy seaside villages create a peaceful, almost untouched world away from busy cities.

Discover the East
To the east, an entirely separate landscape awaits: rugged coastlines where whales breach close to shore, quiet fjords filled with playful puffins, and lush green valleys teeming with Icelandic long-haired horses. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a reindeer. Locals love to whisper about elves and trolls hiding in the hills—though I didn’t see any myself.

Start Your Adventure in Akureyri
The best way to begin your journey in the north is with a quick flight to Akureyri, often called the Capital of the North. From there, a scenic road trip awaits, offering surreal landscapes and long tunnels carved into the mountain sides.

Some tunnels are narrow and single-laned, feeling like scenes from a thriller—where oncoming cars seem to play a game of chicken.

Plan Your Iceland Experience
Imagine standing near the Gullfoss Waterfall, watching the golden waters tumble into the Hvítá River canyon.

Dream of Iceland—and make it real.

Oddsskard Tunnel is a single-lane tunnel located between the villages Eskifjordur and Nordfjordur in Eastern Iceland.

Visit Siglufjörður—Iceland’s northernmost town nestled in a narrow fjord surrounded by steep, misty peaks.

Once a small shark-fishing outpost in the early 1900s, Siglufjörður became famous as the herring capital of the Atlantic. The town’s fortunes changed with the industry, but its history remains deeply woven into every part of the town.

Experience Fisherman’s Day in June, a lively celebration honoring Iceland’s maritime heritage. The whole village transforms with music, festivities, and fishing trawler races.

Enjoy fish and chips as you soak in authentic Icelandic culture and join locals and visitors in joyful celebration.

East Iceland cottages for rent by the sea on the peninsula of Mjóeyri, outside the village of Eskifjörður.

Make Hotel Sigló your base camp—this harborside gem offers sweeping views of the fishing boats and distant fjord. The spacious contemporary rooms and warm service make this a destination unto itself.

Don’t miss a visit to Segull 67 Brewery, a family-run craft brewery housed in a converted fish factory. Run by three generations—a grandfather, father, and son, this brewhouse is a local favorite. Their small-batch beers are served in a cozy, minimalist tasting room.

Owner Elvar Reykjalin and grandson Sigmar Reykjalin Hjelm and their Hot tubs on the Black beach in Hauganes

From Siglufjörður, head south to Hauganes, a peaceful village by a fjord. Perched above a black sand beach, you’ll find the Fjöruböðin Black Beach Hot Tubs, a unique experience created by Elvar Reykjalin—Iceland’s very own Pierce Brosnan. After soaking in the waterfront tubs, visit the Baccalá Bar for a drink and seafood.

And for the adventurous and daring, try the Rotten Shark (Hákarl) tasting they offer. If anything, it is worth it for the laughs alone, thanks to the comedy team of Elvar and his grandson. Big things are in store for Hauganes: plans are underway for a new beachfront hotel and expanded soaking areas to open next year.

The Future Of Iceland: Volcano Tourism, New Hotels, And Authentic Adventures

Cafe in the mountains owned by farmer Vilhjalmur Vernhardsson offers traditional accommodations as well as amazing food at his restaurant Fjallakaffi

Next up is Lake Mývatn, one of Iceland’s most famous volcanic lakes. Grab a quick bite at Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn, a quaint roadside stop with lake views and cod that comes directly from the Sólberg óf 1 fishing vessel. Expect long lines—it’s a favorite among road-trippers.

Then, take a detour to Möðrudalur, a tiny outpost at the edge of the northern highlands. Stop at Fjalladýrð Möðrudalur, known to locals as the “cafe in the mountains.” Owned by farmer Vilhjalmur Vernhardsson, the property feels like a location from The Lord of the Rings. It’s Iceland’s highest inhabited farm, dating back to the settlement era. Here, you’ll find turf houses for overnight stays, fabulous gourmet dining, and even your own reindeer roaming the grounds.

Saevar Gudjonsson at his Randulffssjóhús Restaurant in East Iceland

As you make your way through East Iceland, follow Route 92 to Eskifjörður, a charming fishing town nestled beneath the stunning Hólmatindur mountain. The adjacent Hólmanes nature reserve is home to excellent walking trails that weave between the majestic rock formations.

Eskifjörður, officially a trading post since 1789, is still an important hub. Dine at Randulf’s Sea House, an old seafarer’s lodge run by Sævar Guðjónsson and Berglind Ingvarsdóttir. The upstairs fisherman’s quarters have remained untouched since 1890. For a unique stay, you can book one of their bright red cottages on the Mjóeyri peninsula—complete with a resident baby fox and an outdoor soaking tub built into an old fishing boat.

The Future Of Iceland: Volcano Tourism, New Hotels, And Authentic Adventures

Fishing excursion with Captain Hafthor Valgeirsson and his wife Sunna Julia Thordardottir with Skorrahestar.

Continue to Neskaupstaður, the easternmost town in Iceland, nestled in a fjord surrounded by towering mountains. While accommodations here are really basic (mine was a converted school dorm), what it lacks in luxury, it makes up for in raw beauty. Skip sleep and head out on a sea-angling night with Captain Hafthor Valgeirsson and his wife, Sunna Julia Thordardottir, fishing under the midnight sun.

The Future Of Iceland: Volcano Tourism, New Hotels, And Authentic Adventures

Marina in Siglufjordur

Be sure to stop at Beituskúrinn Bait Shack, a former whaling station house brought from Norway in the 1800s. It served as a summer bunkhouse and cod storage for almost a century. Now, the building has been converted into a lively bar and restaurant.

Spend a leisurely afternoon watching whales offshore or visit the nearby Reindeer Park in Fellabaer for an intimate, hands-on experience with rescued reindeer. Unlike a zoo, the park focuses on creating close, respectful encounters.

The Future Of Iceland: Volcano Tourism, New Hotels, And Authentic Adventures

The dramatic fjords of East Iceland

It’s always time for another hot soak, so visit Vök Baths in Egilsstaðir. Set on the shores of Lake Urriðavatn, this large spa features multiple floating thermal pools with infinity views, two onshore hot tubs, a sauna, a cold water mist tunnel, and a swim-up bar. This spa is the perfect spot to wrap up your adventure before heading off to Egilsstadir Airport for the short flight back to Reykjavik.

On my final day in Iceland, I still couldn’t sleep. It wasn’t the endless sunlight keeping me awake, but the feeling that I didn’t want to miss my final glimpses of this otherworldly land. Iceland isn’t just a place you visit. It’s a place that stays with you long after the midnight sun has finally set.

The Future Of Iceland: Volcano Tourism, New Hotels, And Authentic Adventures

Vök Baths

As tourism surges and adventure-seeking travelers look for unique experiences, a wave of new resorts is being planned to meet the demand.

Iceland’s famed Blue Lagoon is plotting further hospitality expansion, with a second Retreat-branded hotel expected to open in the highlands of Iceland by 2027. Blue Lagoon said the new hotel will be located in a mountain destination that’s relatively close to the company’s post-apocalyptic feeling Highland Base at Kerlingafjöll resort, which opened last July. The highlands have been off-limits to outsiders in winter, but Highland Base changed all of that.

The new adventure-focused Highland Base concept features a geothermal spa and a high-end 40-room hotel in Þjórsárdalur Valley, Iceland. The building is carved into a rocky mountain and partially covered with the volcanic materials of the site. The natural rock is always present within the interior of the building, with large windows that open up to the surrounding landscape.

Six Senses Össurá Valley

The first phase of the project, slated to open in 2030, is located in Svínhólar near Lóni. The flatland at the southern end is adjacent to the Lón Lagoon, which is separated from the North Atlantic Ocean by a beautiful black sand beach. There will be a 70-guestroom resort and private cottages as well as branded Residences on the surrounding land. Futuristic architect John Brevard will design the property inspired by the country’s mystical elves, whose pyramid-shaped homes will add mysticism to the project.

Built by the owners of Viking Heliskiing, the property is perched on cliffs overlooking the longest fjörd in Iceland; Hofdi Lodge offers a peaceful escape with stunning views. Alongside a restaurant, rooftop bar, and spa, Hofdi Lodge also features a gym, helicopter pads, horse stables, and indoor golf.

This new development is bringing seven mirrored homes to the south of Iceland near the Hekla Volcano. The houses are designed to blend seamlessly into the landscape. Jaak and Andreas Tiik run a popular mirror house company with projects worldwide, from California to Ghana. They have been engineered to withstand some of the world’s most extreme weather conditions yet still provide a 180-degree floor-to-ceiling glass façade that seamlessly blends into the natural surroundings.

The Future Of Iceland: Volcano Tourism, New Hotels, And Authentic Adventures

New Forest Lagoon Hotel will join the existing Forest Lagoon geothermal spa.

Forest Lagoon Hotel

This 120-room hotel is currently under construction next to the Forest Lagoon, just outside of Akureyri. The hotel will feature a restaurant, a conference hall, and, of course, a great connection to the Forest Lagoon, which both locals and visitors in North Iceland have highly regarded. The hotel will open at the end of 2027, and the lagoon will be expanded to connect to the building.

Among other properties, Hilton will be expanding in Iceland with two new additions: the Akureyri «Skáld» Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, set to open in summer 2025, and a premium lifestyle hotel in Reykjavik, scheduled to open in spring 2026.

‘Prophet & Poet’ Wines

Drinking ‘Prophet & Poet’ Wines With Jessica Biel

Jessica Biel’s journey into the wine world mirrors her successful Hollywood career — it all starts with a compelling story and a talented team.

Her childhood friend, Jesse Katz of Aperture Cellars, plays a key role. Known for high scores and a record-breaking $1 million sale of a bottle at auction, Jesse brings passion and expertise. When Jessica married Justin Timberlake, Jesse created a special vintage to celebrate. He also did the same for Biel’s brother, Justin, and his wife, Rose.

Realizing their potential, they collaborated to launch the wine brand ‘Prophet & Poet’ — inspired by Rose’s shamanic healing and Justin’s poetry.

The team also includes Chris & Ariel Jackson from Jackson Family Wines, who sourced grapes from their esteemed Sonoma vineyards. The first vintage, from 2021, is limited to only 900 cases, featuring three reds and two whites.

I spoke with Jessica Biel about her new wine brand, how she discovered her love for wine, and her plans for her next detective series.

When did you start enjoying wine?

My parents weren’t big wine drinkers, so wine wasn’t part of my childhood. I began exploring wine in my mid-20s — when I had my own money and could choose bottles for myself. I wanted to learn about different varieties and flavors.

Traveling around the world also sparked my interest.

I also met my husband, Justin Timberlake, in my mid-20s. His parents enjoyed wine every night, especially big, bold reds like Barolos. Through them, I was introduced to many different wines.

Jessica Biel in Sonoma: Her Journey into Wine

First Memorable Bottle
Jessica Biel recalls her first memorable wine experience with Tignanello, a bold Super Tuscan. This wine played a key role in her understanding passion for wine and what makes it so special.

From Wine Lover to Wine Creator
Her transition from enthusiast to wine label founder began nearly 13 years ago. Jesse Katz, her childhood friend, crafted a wedding wine as a gift. Later, they created wine for her brother’s wedding, at Jesse’s kitchen table — before he had his winery.

As the wine matured, it kept improving. Jessica thought, “Why not share it?” She wanted to turn their family’s special celebration wines into something for everyone.

Authenticity Matters
Jessica mentions, “If it was anyone else or a story I wasn’t involved in from the start, I wouldn’t do it.” Her connection to Jesse and the personal story behind the wine made her say “yes”. This was more than just a business — it was about family, tradition, and authenticity.

Surprising Insights about Winemaking
Jessica highlights the complexity of making wine — from soil and farmers to grapes and weather. She recalls talking to Jesse during harvest, when he decided to leave grapes on the vine longer.

She initially thought, “Does a few extra hours really matter?” But Jesse explained, “Yes!” Timing, blending, and tasting are true art forms. Jessica admits she didn’t fully understand Jesse’s craft until she got involved.

Prophet & Poet

When you first created the wedding wine was there any direction you gave to Jesse about what you wanted?

We wanted something red, beautiful and bold. And we were getting married in Puglia so it would make sense to have that kind of wine. Interestingly enough — we didn’t actually drink that wine at our wedding because it was too hard to bring it over. But we’ve enjoyed that wine at so many other moments in our life.

Do you enjoy spirits and cocktails as well?

I like tequila. And I also really like a Vesper martini. I’m a vodka martini straight-up-with-a-twist kind of person. I don’t like it dirty.

Have you ever had a drink with one of your idols?

I’ve had a few cool experiences having a glass of wine and a meal with Jane Fonda. I met her years ago at an amazing event her organization does annually for reproductive rights for teenagers in Georgia. And we have stayed friends and we talk and text and email. It’s so cool. I saw her after an event one year and asked her how she has stayed looking so beautiful and fit and so healthy and vibrant. What is the secret? And she said ‘posture!’ And all of us at the table stood up so much straighter.

(L to R) Chris Jackson, Jesse Katz, Rose Biel, Jessica Biel, Ariel Jackson

You’re co-starring in a new series with Elizabeth Banks called ‘The Better Sister.’ She also has her own wine label. Did she give you any advice?

I didn’t even know that for a long time. She does so many things. I wouldn’t be surprised if she has ten other companies I don’t know about. She’s not the kind of person who makes a big deal about what she’s got going on in her life. It just kind of shows up all of sudden and you’re like ‘wait, that’s yours?’

We did get to have a drink together a couple of times. She’s amazing. What you see is what you get with her. She’s funny. She’s so smart. And she’s just lovely. We had this natural sister-level comfort about us right away.

You produced and starred in another series called ‘The Sinner.’ How did that come to life?

It’s based on a German book. My producing partner brought it to me and we fell for it right away. We thought ‘this is pushing a lot of boundaries and is not anything we’ve seen on television.’ And it was material I had never had the opportunity to do. ‘I’m scared of it, but this one’s mine. And I’m going to hang onto it real tight.’

Did you see Bill Pullman in the detective role right away?

He was on the top of our list because he felt unexpected. The character has a lot of darkness and intricacies and in real life he’s so sweet, lovable and charming.

Would you ever want to act with your husband in a mystery?

Yes. I’d like to be the murderer this time though.

What role would he play?

He should be the detective. He should want to find me.

These Are The 12 Best Chefs In America For 2025 Honored With James Beard Awards

Interior Causa Restaurant

Carlos Delgado (Causa / Washington D.C.)

(One Michelin Star) Causa seats 20 people for a tasting menu that takes diners on a journey inspired by Peru. Michelin Guide says, «It all begins in Lima with coastal seafood, then progresses into the Andes and the Amazon. Chicha morada kombucha, made from purple corn, is a perfect partner for the Peruvian classic and namesake dish, causa, with its mashed potatoes hit with aji amarillo paste, then topped with cucumber, avocado and tuna tartare.

Next, the humble bomba rice is given a luxe glow-up courtesy of uni, caviar, and a criolla sauce. Dessert doesn’t disappoint, as in the passion fruit and mint gelato scoops piped with macambo mousse.»

These Are The 12 Best Chefs In America For 2025 Honored With James Beard Awards

Interior Semma Restaurant

Vijay Kumar (Semma / New York)

(One Michelin star) Chef Vijay Kumar runs an authentic Indian dining experience. With the freedom to cook the food he knows best, he replicated his grandmother’s recipes at Semma.

Michelin Guide says, «This is authentic Indian cooking that doesn’t pander to American expectations, and if some of the dishes are unfamiliar, lean on the staff who know their stuff and are eager to share. One bite in, and you’ll quickly learn that this cooking is all heart.

Dishes are spicy, but the heat is used as elegantly as it is liberally. Start with the mulaikattiya thaniyam, the chef’s childhood snack that bursts with flavor. The gunpowder dosa, a classic rice and lentil crepe filled with potato masala, is on every table for a reason. Attu Kari sukkah is a falling-apart tender lamb in a dark brown curry redolent of warm spices.»

Michelin starred Chef Nando Chang from Itamae AO Restaurant

Nando Chang (Itamae AO / Miami, Florida)

Michelin Guide says, “Those familiar with the chef’s past work in the Design District will take heart in how classic Peruvian-Japanese flavors as well as signature dishes have been reworked, reimagined, and refined. Searing levels of acidity and spice figure prominently on this bold-tasting menu, often in the form of leche de tigre. From lobster bisque with sweet potato gnocchi to creamy rice with Hokkaido scallops and parmesan, the cooking possesses style and substance in spades. Sourcing is a priority, with whole fish flown in from Japan, later to be broken down and occasionally strung up in dry-aging fridges along the wall.”
