The Iconic TWA Hotel at JFK Airport, New York

Step into a world where air travel feels glamorous again at the TWA Hotel, a serene escape nestled within the bustling John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

Originally built in 1962 by celebrated architect Eero Saarinen, famed for the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, this architectural gem has been reimagined as a vibrant hub. It's part hotel, part dining destination, part museum filled with mid-century modern charm and historical artifacts that captivate at every turn.

Staying at the TWA Hotel is both a unique experience and a practical choice, being the only hotel directly on JFK Airport grounds with Air Train access. It's perfect for early flights, especially from Terminal 5, connected by iconic flight tubes.

Rooms with Runway Views

With 512 rooms, the TWA Hotel offers something special. While standard rooms are comfortable, upgrading to a runway-view room is a must. Our king bed faced expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a front-row seat to planes taking off and landing. The view was mesmerizing, turning our stay into a live aviation show—no TV needed, though a large screen was available. We spent hours dreaming of destinations and reminiscing about past trips, phones forgotten.

Remarkably, the second-thickest windows in the world ensure complete silence despite the runway action. Blackout shades guaranteed restful sleep, lifted promptly at sunrise to soak in the view again.

The bathroom's Hollywood-style vanity was a delight, paired with a charming vintage TWA toiletry kit. The desk, stocked with TWA pencils, was a nostalgic touch we couldn’t resist.

Dining at TWA Hotel

Sip a cocktail at the Connie Cocktail Lounge, housed in a restored 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane.

Previous visits saw us enjoying New York classics like bagels, pizza, Feltman’s hot dogs, and Mister Softee ice cream at the lively Food Hall. This time, we dined at Paris Cafe by Jean-Georges, savoring delicious fish and chips inspired by vintage TWA in-flight menus.

For a retro vibe, visit the Connie Cocktail Lounge, named among the world’s best hotel bars. Climb aboard the 1958 airplane and order a Vodka is My Co-Pilot for a drink or a perfect Instagram moment.

Things to See and Do

Relive the 1960s in the vibrant Twister room, where you can play the classic game.

The TWA Hotel is a visual feast, from the playful Twister room to the chic Sweet’N Glow Salon and the elegant curves of Saarinen’s architecture.

Aviation enthusiasts and history buffs will love the museum-quality exhibits curated by the New York Historical Society, showcasing TWA uniforms from 1945–2001, vintage amenities, travel posters, and immersive recreations of historic rooms.

The rooftop infinity pool is a highlight, heated to 95°F in winter and refreshing in New York’s summer heat.

Stay active at the world’s largest hotel gym, complimentary for guests, featuring 14 Peloton bikes, diverse equipment, and a full yoga studio.
