Ryanair's New Carry-On Bag Size: Travel Smarter with MWR LIFE
Expanded Luggage Allowance for Ryanair Passengers
Ryanair, Europe’s leading airline by passenger numbers, is upgrading its free carry-on bag size from 40 x 25 x 20 cm (15.7 x 9.8 x 7.9 inches) to 40 x 30 x 20 cm (15.7 x 11.8 x 7.9 inches). This increase adds 4 liters of volume (from 20 to 24 liters), providing extra space for business trips, weekend getaways, or short vacations.
When Will the New Rules Take Effect?
The rollout date is yet to be confirmed as Ryanair updates its airport bag sizers across Europe. According to Airlines for Europe (A4E), all member airlines will implement these standardized measurements by the end of the 2025 summer season, ensuring a seamless travel experience.
Why the Change in Cabin Baggage Rules?
European airlines, including Ryanair, have agreed to standardize minimum cabin baggage sizes to simplify travel. Previously, inconsistent luggage rules across low-cost carriers caused confusion. Since carry-on fees were introduced by Flybe in 2005, strict enforcement—especially on details like wheels and handles—has led to costly penalties, sometimes exceeding the price of a flight.
