With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, Americans are setting their sights on sunshine and sandy shores for their romantic getaways.
According to Allianz Partners USA’s ‘2025 Top Valentine’s Day Destinations’ report, holiday travel is seeing a significant spike, with bookings up an astonishing 42 percent compared to last year.
With love already in the air, most travelers are seeking somewhere warm to celebrate, whether that’s an island hotspot or desert destination.
By analyzing over 1.6 million itineraries for roundtrip flights departing U.S. airports between February 7 and February 13, and returning between February 14 and February 18, the top travel insurance provider found that 77 percent of travelers are staying within the U.S., while 23 percent are venturing abroad.
The data also distinctly pointed to the most popular spots for a romantic escape this year.
Domestic travelers are showing a clear preference for sunny and vibrant destinations, with Phoenix soaring to the number one spot after placing fourth last year.
Orlando followed in second place and Las Vegas came in third. Other top picks rounding the top ten include Miami, New York City, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, Honolulu and Seattle. From sunny beaches to bustling cityscapes, these destinations are proving to be the perfect settings for a romantic escape.
For those venturing beyond U.S. borders, Mexico continues to be the go-to international getaway. Our Southern neighbor claims the top three spots on the international list with Cancún, San José del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta leading the way.
Other destinations abroad drawing Valentine’s travelers include London, England; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Paris, France; Mexico City, Mexico; Liberia, Costa Rica; and Oranjestad, Aruba.
With travel demand surging, Allianz Partners USA advises travelers to protect their getaways.
“Love is in the air this year, with travel reaching new heights for Valentine’s Day itineraries,” said Daniel Durazo, Director of External Communications at Allianz Partners USA. “For those embarking on ‘bae-cations’, it’s important to consider purchasing travel insurance to aid in a seamless trip, with pre-paid travel investments protected from covered unpredictable events like trip cancellations or interruptions, travel delays and baggage loss.”
