Experience the NextGen Acela: Redefining Travel on the Northeast Corridor

Starting August 28, Amtrak introduces the NextGen Acela trains on the Northeast Corridor, connecting Boston, New York, and Washington D.C. with unmatched comfort and speed. After resolving operational and safety concerns, five of the planned 28 trains debut, with the rest rolling out over the next two years.

Elevate your journey with enhanced dining in Café Acela and First Class. Savor signature dishes from renowned restaurateur Stephen Starr, including Charred Bobo Chicken with spicy aji verde sauce from St. Anselm, Ricotta Ravioli with plum tomato sauce from Parc, and Crab Enchiladas with guajillo chili sauce from El Presidente. A new grab-and-go section in Café Acela ensures quick, delicious options.

Additional Amtrak Upgrades

Beyond the Acela, Amtrak is enhancing travel nationwide. The Amtrak Airo, launching next year, will upgrade services like the Northeast Regional, Empire Service, and others with modern interiors, larger windows, speeds up to 125 mph, and improved amenities like tablet holders, enhanced lighting, and better WiFi. The Amtrak Mardi Gras Service, starting August 18, offers twice-daily scenic trips between Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans, stopping at Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport, and Bay Saint Louis.

Travel Time and Scheduling

The NextGen Acela trains will reach speeds of 160 mph, slightly faster than the current 150 mph, reducing travel time between Washington and New York (currently around three hours). Exact schedules will be shared closer to the debut, with clear distinctions between new and existing services during booking.
