Discover the New San Montano Resort & Spa
This summer, San Montano Resort & Spa, one of Ischia’s most renowned resorts, unveiled a stunning renovation that pays tribute to Italy’s rich design legacy.
The redesign, led by renowned designers Rino Gambardella and Claudio Pulicati—the same team behind the acclaimed Borgo Santandrea—brings together influences from postwar design icons like Gio Ponti and Ico Parisi, while celebrating local craftsmanship and the natural beauty of the Mediterranean landscape.
General Manager Arcangelo De Siano shares, “The expansion and renovation were a response to Ischia’s growing presence on the global luxury travel scene. We saw an increasing demand from travelers seeking a more authentic, wellness-focused experience. San Montano’s transformation reflects our desire to meet these evolving expectations and offer a truly luxurious experience.”

Guests of the resort can explore 7.5 acres of parkland and Mediterranean gardens, showcasing Ischia’s vibrant nature.
The resort offers 65 newly renovated rooms in four types and eight luxurious suites. The décor blends Mediterranean blues with modern marble, terracotta, and custom-made furnishings from reclaimed elements like antique majolica tiles. Each suite features a private pool or jacuzzi, including the Amalfi Sunrise Suite, which boasts an infinity pool with views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
The Lighthouse Suite, a two-bedroom villa in a former military lighthouse, is one of the resort’s most unique additions. With 360-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, it accommodates up to six guests. The suite includes a circular bathroom with original portholes and a glass-enclosed «Winter Garden» with a retractable roof, kitchen, and panoramic vistas. Artisan ceramics and natural materials accent the space.
Francesco De Siano, co-owner and sales director of San Montano, says, “We want our guests to feel like they are staying in our home, not a hotel. The kitchen and living room represent the true Italian way of enjoying life—being with family and friends, sharing food and wine.”
The suite’s 11,000 square feet of outdoor space includes a private garden with a plunge pool shaded by lemon and olive trees, perfect for enjoying the island’s stunning sunsets.
The Lighthouse Suite, perched at the highest point of the resort, offers an exclusive and luxurious experience.
San Montanto’s wellness offerings are deeply rooted in the island’s natural resources. Ischia, known for its 100+ mineral-rich thermal springs, has been a healing destination for centuries. The resort features five thermal pools, each with different temperatures for a rejuvenating treatment circuit. Additionally, six outdoor pools, including a large seawater pool, provide various options for relaxation. The natural grotto sauna, carved into the rock and warmed by thermal waters, enhances the wellness experience.
The resort’s Ocean Blue Spa embraces local ingredients and Ischian wellness traditions, offering treatments such as mud therapies, physiotherapy, and kinesiotherapy. Facilities include five treatment rooms, a sauna, hammam, Kneipp pool, and experience showers, along with an outdoor treatment area to enjoy the vibrant nature of Ischia. New wellness programs include guided hikes to Monte Epomeo, yoga sessions in the gardens, and cooking classes using local ingredients. Guests can also explore the 7.5-acre park and Mediterranean gardens. La Veranda, the property’s fine-dining restaurant, serves up delectable Italian cuisine and breathtaking views.
San Montano’s culinary offerings, overseen by Executive Chef Francesco Scotto di Minico, spotlight age-old traditions and ingredients plucked from the property’s gardens, along with just-caught local seafood and artisanal ingredients sourced from top regional purveyors. La Veranda, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, serves up inspired dishes like lobster panzanella and ravioli with traditional Ischian rabbit sauce. At lunchtime, pizza lovers will want to beeline to Franco’s for standout Neapolitan pizzas like its signature “Lemontano,” topped with mortadella, buffalo mozzarella, pistachios, and lemon zest, and served on a sun-splashed panoramic terrace complete with jaw-dropping views.
Light poolside fare like panini take center stage at Acropoli Bar, while the Sunset Bar is the island’s go-to spot for aperitivo at dusk, where head bartender Ambrogio carefully crafts zingy cocktails with local bitters and aromatic herbs, as live piano and harp music fills the air. Wine enthusiasts can also explore the hotel’s extensive cellar stocked with Campania’s finest vintages, with private tastings available for those keen to explore the region’s winemaking heritage.

Speaking of, San Montano’s concierge team can arrange visits to centuries-old vineyards to taste indigenous Biancolella and Forastera winery, along with an array of other experiences on the island–from scooter tours, to private excursions aboard the hotel’s four luxury boats, to fishing with local fishermen. History buffs will want to visit Castello Aragonese, an imposing medieval castle dating back to 474 B.C. that presides over an islet to Ischia’s east, and is connected to the island by a causeway; its steep, narrow stairwells and rocky outcrops present an opportunity to walk off some indulgent pasta dinners. Green thumbs won’t want to miss Giardini La Mortella, one of Europe’s most captivating private botanical gardens. Created in 1958 by Lady Susana Walton—wife of British composer, Sir William Walton—with the help of English garden designer Russell Page, the breathtaking sanctuary reflects her five-decade devotion to its painstaking cultivation.
Connected to the island by a causeway, Castello Aragonese is one of Ischia’s top attractions.
No matter how guests choose to spend their time on Ischia, they will find plenty to enjoy.
As Arcangelo De Siano says, the island’s uniqueness lies in its diversity and richness packed into a small area. Although Ischia is about four times larger than Capri, it is still very accessible. Visitors can easily travel from one side to the other in minutes.
Ischia is full of authentic experiences, history, and culture, making every visit unforgettable.
